OGTT

As early as 7.30am dah pergi ke hospital for OGTT (Oral glucose tolerance test). Sampai2 kena amek darah (berpuasa) dulu, and seperti biasa, 2 - 3 kali kena cucuk baru jumpe veins. Then, midwive suh lepak jek dalam common room diorang, siap ada sofa & TV & magazines & newspaper. But, I played iPad & tertidur jek atas sofa sementara menunggu 2 jam pas minum air gula. Air gula nya memang sedap macam Sprite..coz manis & bicarbonated & kali ni color hijau plak air dia.

So after dah amek darah for the second time, diorang kasik makan...pilih la nak fruit salad ke, salad sandwich or toast. Of course I chose fruit salad with orange juice. Then, midwive kata diorang akan call to inform the result around 2.30pm.

Dan resultnya adalah...high glucose in blood. I was diagnosed with a gestational diabetes (GD). *sigh~~~
Actually, most people salah faham la ape penyebab GD. Bukan kita tak jaga makan, I ate more healthier foods here & during my pregnancy than I was in Malaysia & yet I'm still diagnosed with GD. So takleh la nak salahkan pemakanan ibu mengandung jek kan.... (my hubby pun marah if orang kata "awak makan apa sampai leh kena GD?" coz dia lebih tau cara kami makan coz dia yang masakkan...huhu)

Anyway, I have a family history of diabetic, so memang akan ada possibility untuk kena gakz. Otherwise, I'm healthy. No high/low BP, no urine infection, nothing..except this GD. Takperla, kita terima lah seadanya. Since dah tau nih, after this kena la lagi control makan...but tgk list pemakanan pun, everything yang di-suggest is what I ate before this, so tak susah la kot nak tukar diet..cuma kena tukar portion dia jek. Bigger size portion for veggies.

What causes gestational diabetes?
In pregnancy, the placenta (the blood source for the baby) produces hormones that help the baby grow and develop. Some of these hormones block the action of the mother’s insulin which is called insulin resistance. During pregnancy, to keep the blood glucose levels normal, mothers need to make 2 to 3 times the normal amount of insulin due to this insulin resistance. If the body is unable to produce the extra insulin or becomes more resistant, gestational diabetes develops. When the baby is born and the insulin requirements fall, glucose levels return to normal and diabetes usually disappears.
