Breast Pump
Because I'm still a student and will be a working mom someday, I need to have a good breast pump, so that I can pump some milk before I go to the office ("alang2 dah beli yang mahal, baik beli yang betul2 berkualiti" Menteri Kewangan@BB berkata). I already had my eye on Medela breast pumps but it's sooooo damn expensive here. And its more expensive than in Malaysia. There is also not much of a choice of breast pumps either. I've been waiting for months in case they have a major discount on these pumps but is beginning to realize that they will never reduce their prices.
Besides, there are only 2 specialized baby stores here in SA; Baby Bunting & Haggle Baby (Baby's R Us does not count). So, there isn't really much of a competition for them to reduce their prices. The current price for Medela Freestyle is AU$649 = RM2060, and Medela Swing AU$265 = RM840. But I am really interested in the Pump In Style Advanced with Backpack because its easier to carry around. However, they don't really have stocks for the Pump In Style Advanced here, only in Baby's R Us, which is about AU$550++.
I wanted to lay by the breast pump because these stores have 3 months of lay by policy (Baby's R Us does not have lay by). But BB aka Menteri Kewangan said it will still be too expensive and we could not afford it. So, we decided we would order one from USA. Since the currency of AUD is a bit higher than USD now, it will be much much cheaper than buying a new one here. In USA, the price for a new Medela Pump In Style Advanced is only USD250, and the shipping cost will be around USD50. So altogether will cost less than RM1000. Since our friend is still in USA, we will ask him to post the item to us. Coz Amazon.com only deliver within USA.
Kat sini banyak jual used Medela breast pump. Used Pump In Style pon cuma AUD150. Tapi, selepas membuat kajian, breast pump is only for single users only. Sebabnya takut ada infections. Even dah sterilised pon, kemungkinan germs or wutever tuh akan lekat kat belah dalam yang tidak boleh dicapai. Tapi if hands down daripada org2 yang kita kenal tak salah kot sebab kita tau dia ade penyakit or tidak. If beli used pumps online, kita tatau mungkin masa dia tengah pump tuh breast dia luka and berdarah, so tuh yang merbahaya, especially if dia pengidap HIV/AIDS. Walaupon masih belum dengar apa2 isu pasal infections from used pumps users, tapi better not take the risks kan. Biar beli mahal2 now than to treat wutever diseases that will come later from the infections.

good info! eventho aku tak preknen lagi tp aku dah research pasal breastpump nih. anyway rasanya aku tgk kat blog mane tah dia sell medela freestyle rm1500+++ tak sangke kat aussie lg mahal...

ReplyDeletegood effort for breastfeeding. remind me of my uni days.. I used to pump breast milk using Avent breast pump set. Yg macam Avent brand ni pun dah sgt bagus Nad, kat M'sia bout RM200++, kat sini only 50euro je satu set. Bole guna lg smpai skrg, still function well, dah 3 tahun lebih akak guna. Really worth it.

ReplyDeleteI was using FirstYears manual pump. It was the best for me, after the Spectra3. Used Spectra3 for 3wks whenever I visited Maryam in SJMC. SJMC memang guna Spectra3 untuk patient yg tak boleh direct BF babies.

Oh, ade gak nampak FirstYears pump, but tak byk dijual di sini. I read somewhere yg FirstYears pump pon not bad. Spectra3 brand plak memang tak pernah jumpe di sini. Hehe.
