Facts about EBM

1. Some research suggests that the longer you store breast milk — whether in the refrigerator or in the freezer — the greater the loss of vitamin C in the milk. Other studies have shown that refrigeration beyond two days may reduce the bacteria-killing properties of breast milk and long-term freezer storage may lower the quality of breast milk's lipids. It's also important to note that breast milk expressed when a baby is a newborn won't as completely meet the same baby's needs when he or she is olderAs baby grows, breastmilk continues to change to meet the needs for optimal growth, at each stage of baby's development . This means that mom's breastmilk at four months is perfectly suited to the needs of her four month old baby, and at six months, perfectly suited for her six month old.

2. Never shake breastmilk to mix! Shaking can damage the milk, and is not recommended!

3. Many babies don't care if the milk is served cold right out of the fridge.  It won't upset their stomach, and will save you or your caregiver a minute or two, which can be really important if your baby is frantically hungry.  If you want to try cold milk, be sure to run the nipple under warm water if it has been refrigerated.
Most babies dislike cold nipples more than they dislike cold milk.
