Long due update

My first doc's appointment: 27 October 2010

Went to the Women's & Children's Hospital (WCH) at North Adelaide half an hour early to fill up some forms. Parking was only for 1 hour (free) so we had to be quick. Thankfully here we don't have to wait or queue because the appointment has been set for us, so we just have to be punctual. Mine was at 10.30am. The hospital was nice, the nurses & midwives were all nice too (I don't know how Malaysian hospitals are to compare it with).

After filling up the forms, a student from Adelaide Uni came up to me and asked me if I would be interested to join their research group. Since it was for a good purpose, I agreed. I was asked to take more blood than for the normal checkup and to take up extra two ultrasound of the baby; week 20; week 28; week36. Normally the hospital only require one ultrasound which is in week 20. By the way, they don't do ultrasounds for us, we have to set an appointment at another clinic for that purpose.

After that, they took the details of our family history, any diseases or something like that. Since this is our first child, they explained so many things to us; parent education, options of care, etc2. Then, they took 7 tubes  (small tubes) of blood, 3 for the hospital and 4 for the research.

Normally midwives will take care of the patients, and not doctors. Doctors only come once a week or something like that for consultation. Midwives also delivers the baby. But there are options where we can request for both doctor and midwife but it'll cost more. Since delivering baby here is free, so we just opt for the midwives care. No problemo.

My second appointment will be on the 7th December 2010. I'll be 16 weeks pregnant by then.

*The relevance to check for ultrasound on the 20th week is because by then the baby is big enough, their heartbeat is strong enough and if the baby shows, we can already know the gender of the baby. Oh, and we have to drink plenty of water before the ultrasound so that we have a full bladder. (Dunno why, but it says so in the booklet. Huhu)
